Data Engineer – Kastle Systems – Remote

We are growing—and looking for a Data Engineer / DBA who thrives on optimizing infrastructure, building scalable data pipelines, and ensuring high database performance in a 24×7 environment. This hybrid role based in Washington, DC blends hands-on database administration with the opportunity to modernize and innovate Kastle’s evolving data architecture.
What You’ll Do
You’ll serve as a key member of our engineering team, responsible for both operational stability and data strategy. You’ll help modernize legacy architecture, support analytics initiatives, and build a future-proof data foundation that empowers the entire organization.
Database Administration

Administer and monitor MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases for optimal performance, uptime, and data integrity.

Manage backups, disaster recovery, and high availability plans to ensure business continuity.

Enforce data security and compliance with SOC 2, GDPR, and internal standards.

Tune queries, stored procedures, and indexes for maximum performance.

Perform capacity planning and provide recommendations to enhance infrastructure.
Data Engineering

Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines and data workflows to support analytics and operational systems.

Build and manage scalable data warehouses and data models.
-
Collaborate with engineering teams to decouple business logic from stored procedures.

Partner with product and analytics teams to define and deliver data solutions aligned with business needs.

Apply best practices for data governance, quality assurance, and metadata management.
Collaboration & Innovation

Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for data-related deployments.

Drive automation of routine database and data engineering tasks.

Contribute to the design of cloud-based architectures using Azure and related tools.

Assist engineering teams with database troubleshooting in a fast-paced 24×7 environment.
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
-
5+ years of experience in data engineering and database administration
-
Expertise in MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
-
Strong background in ETL processes, data modeling, and data architecture
-
Hands-on experience with Azure or other cloud platforms
-
Familiarity with DevOps practices: containerization, Infrastructure-as-Code, and CI/CD pipelines
-
Proficient in query optimization, performance tuning, and indexing
-
Scripting experience with tools like Python or PowerShell
-
Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis)

Background in real-time data pipelines and streaming (Kafka, Spark)

Prior experience in 24×7 operational environments

Familiarity with data security tools such as encryption, data masking, and role-based access

Exposure to BI dashboards and performance monitoring tools
